Bit & Bridle Fitting

The correct use of the bit and bridle is vital in ensuring good communication between horse and rider. Many "vices" or evasions that horses display are their way of communicating discomfort.

A correctly fitting bridle reduces unwanted pressures on the sensitive horse's head helping to make sure the horse is as comfortable as possible and so able to concentrate on the work that is being asked. I have some off the peg bridle parts and can also make up individual components to suit individual horses and budgets.

The bit too must fit with the anatomy of the horse's mouth for maximum comfort and with the huge variety of bits on the market, it can be confusing for horse owners to know where to turn.

I will come out to your horse, discuss any problems or concerns you may be having and look at ways of helping to overcome them. I have a range of different bridle parts to suit a variety of horses and a selection of bits that owners can try with their horses.

Consultations take between an hour and an hour and a half. For some bridle fits and all bit fits, I like to see your horse ridden so we can work out what the issues are and how best to help. The rider and the horse are active participants in the problem solving process.

I cover mainly Fife, Angus, Perthshire, Edinburgh, the Lothians and the Central Belt but happy to travel further by arrangement.
